Once enrolled, children are obliged to be at school whenever it is open. As a courtesy, but more to check that each child has arrived safely at school, we ask that parents tell the school of a child’s absence.
This could be done by phoning the school, preferably before 9am, emailing admin@egmontvillage.school.nz , a written note handed to the administrator or texting 027 752 2881.
An oral message delivered by another child is unreliable and therefore not acceptable.
An absence book is brought round to each class daily by senior student. Absences are recorded by the teacher. Should your child’s name appear in this book and we have not been informed of the reason for your child’s absence, you are likely to receive a call from the school. We check each class just after 9.00am. Please don’t be offended when asked the reason for your child’s absence as we are required to collect this information for the MOE. Should your child need to leave school during the school day please notify the office and complete the parent sign out folder, so correct numbers can be maintained at any given time in case of an emergency
Unless they have specific permission children are not allowed to leave the grounds while the responsibility of the school.
If you wish your child to leave the grounds (e.g. to go home to lunch, for a medical or dental appointment), please contact the school by note, phone or in person. Children must be signed out at the office if they leave school during school hours. Also if children are late they must be signed in at the office.
The timely sharing of information is important in the relationship between home and school. Informal contacts with the Principal and teachers to discuss your child’s welfare may be made anytime. Drop in at a convenient time or ring to make an appointment.

Wearing a sun hat, white zinc, sunglasses and a sunscreen are wise precautions we encourage at school. The school supplies sunhats for the students. During in Term 1 and 4 all students must wear a sunhat at school. Sunblock is provided in each classroom and students are encouraged to put it on. Should your child lose their hat there is a cost of $10 to purchase a new one.
We are lucky enough this year to offer you the opportunity to purchase your own school hat for your child, these can also be embroidered with their name on it which will help identify their hat from all the others, so it is recommended.
Purchasing a hat is not a requirement, we will still have school hats for children to use at school, but it will become a requirement later on for all new students starting at EVS in the future.
