Absences

Once enrolled, children are obliged to be at school whenever it is open. As a courtesy, but more to check that each child has arrived safely at school, we ask that parents tell the school of a child’s absence. This could be done by phoning the school, preferably before 9am, emailing admin@egmontvillage.school.nz , a written note handed to the administrator or texting 027 752 2881.  An oral message delivered by another child is unreliable and therefore not acceptable.

An absence book is brought round to each class daily by senior student.  Absences are recorded by the teacher.  Should your child’s name appear in this book and we have not been informed of the reason for your child’s absence, you are likely to receive a call from the school.  We check each class just after 9.00am.  Please don’t be offended when asked the reason for your child’s absence as we are required to collect this information for the MOE.  Should your child need to leave school during the school day please notify the office and complete the parent sign out folder, so correct numbers can be maintained at any given time in case of an emergency
