To ease the transition to school, parents are invited to leave their child in class for several short periods during the weeks prior to beginning school. Parents should contact the teacher to make arrangements. At that time, they could get a list of stationery and other requirements
Parents are invited to attend an informal meeting where you will meet the staff who will be involved with your child at Egmont Village School and be introduced to “A Flying Start”. You will meet other parents with children of similar age, and find ways to make starting school a positive experience for both you and your child.
An Invitation will be sent in the term prior to your child starting school
Parents are entitled to have their child enrolled immediately the child turns five, and the child must be enrolled by the time they turn six. For this reason regulations require that a child’s birth certificate, or copy is shown at the first school at which a child is enrolled.
A comprehensive enrolment pack is available in the school office.
To help in the control of certain diseases, the Health (Immunisation) Regulations 1995 require all primary schools to keep an Immunisation register for children born from January 1995. This register needs to record the details from a child’s Immunisation Certificate or else the fact that the Immunisation Certificate was not presented. Parents are therefore, required to show the child’s Immunisation Certificate on enrolment.
The enrolment procedure is very short but requires the sharing of information. While we do not wish to pry into family matters, for school funding and your child’s well-being we ask about citizenship, ethnic identification, guardianship and health factors. We are also required to view a Birth Certificate.
In some situations we may need to quickly call parents, family doctor or an emergency contact. An updated form (confidential) is required to be completed each year for us to collate new addresses, phone numbers and other relevant details.
Our school is a part of the Donation Scheme.
What is the donation scheme?
State and state-integrated schools with an EQI of 432 or higher can choose to receive a per student payment per year if they agree not to ask parents and caregivers for donations, except for overnight camps. Previously this scheme used the decile system, whereby schools with a decile of 1-7 were eligible.
This initiative is designed to alleviate pressure and expectations on households surrounding donation payments.
